Christopher, nigerianischer Lyriker, * Ojoto (bei Onitsha) 16. 8. 1932, ✝ bei Nsukka September 1967; studierte Altphilologie, war Lateinlehrer und Bibliothekar. Er fiel aufseiten Biafras im nigerianischen Bürgerkrieg. Seine Gedichtbände, in englischer Sprache verfasst, sind von der Mythologie des Ibo-Volkes ebenso beeinflusst wie von E. Pound, T. S. Eliot, G. M. Hopkins, den französischen Surrealisten sowie der klassischen Literatur und von biblischen Motiven. Sein kompromissloser Individualismus und die experimentelle, aus mehreren Kulturkreisen schöpfende sprachliche Form seiner Werke ließen ihn zu einem der umstrittensten Dichter Afrikas werden, der die afrikanische Lyrik nachhaltig beeinflusst hat.
